Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) is all set to move ahead with the road widening work which will free Kalyan station of traffic.

However, the issue has become a battleground for E Ravindran, commissioner, KDMC who is going ahead with the job without paying any heed to political pressure. This decision has made him a favorite among the citizens of the twin cities.

The road near Kalyan (West) station has been a choc-a-bloc due to illegal hawkers encroaching the road. But all that is is bound to change with the road widening work which means the civic body will remove the illegal hawkers. Also, 311 shops in the area will be affected by this move.

The same happened in Dombivli illegal constructions near the station!!

One of the shops on the road is run by a minister's relative and this is believed to have started rumours regarding Ravindran's transfers. Allaying these rumours Ravindran said, "I have not received any transfer orders yet."

The rumour failed to stop the commissioner from going ahead with his decision. Also, his act of fearlessness has garnered support from the residents of the twin cities. "Whether it is illegal construction, road widening or dumping ground issue, this commissioner is doing what he can to resolve issues plaguing the city. One can say he is the best commissioner after T Chandrashekhar," said Nikhil Budhkar, a resident of Kalyan.

He added that Kalyan needs such a commissioner in order to become a 'Smart City'.

Another resident, Drishti Mane believes this move will help decongest traffic from Shivaji Chowk to Kalyan station. "The footpaths adjoining the roads are encroached by hawkers and shopkeepers, making it difficult for people not only to drive on the street but also to walk on the footpath," said Mane.

Dombivli resident Rajan Mukadam who staged a Nagada aandolan demanding an IAS officer as the KDMC commissioner also shares the same opinion.

He said, "It is after eight years that KDMC commissioner is an IAS officer and the wait has sufficed. We need such people to carry the good work that needs to be done in the city."

Let’s Support Honest Govt Officers  for our own betterment!!

India is the largest democracy in the world. But today, because of the evil attitude of politicians, government servants and corporators, there is corruption everywhere. The greedy businessmen also add woes to the public by supporting them. Though this evil triangle has caused humiliation to India on the world stage, there are some honest government officers, like E. Ravindran IAS the Commissioner of Kalyan - Dombivli Municipal Corporation. Since he took charge in September 2015, he has been a nightmare to the corrupt. Reduction of corruption by 40% since he took charge is the example of her honesty and duty consciousness. If she remains in her post for the full term, she will certainly uproot corruption in KDMC.

Before him KDMC just believed in milking the residents which has directly translated into increase in our property tax. Tenders were given for development works but it was only an oppotunity for the corrupt to get commission and corruption. Similarly, in many places, tenders have been invited to lay BS slabs twice in a year and money has been laundered. It is no secret that builders ignore all rules while building flats and that corporation officers are hand in glove with them. The drainage system of the city has been suspended long ago and now nobody is interested in completing it. Every year it will be repaired not for any public good but a way to amass and loot public money for many corrupt officers and politicians!! Do we not want a change??? Are we satisfied with the present state of things here???? If not it is time to stand and stand behind our commissioner!!

It is every citizen’s right to have a corruption free country and it is our duty to support such honest officers. Therefore we should join hands to oppose all efforts to transfer him before his term and see that he remains in his post for the full term. In this regard, Let's all look forward and support in making Kalayan - Dombivli a better place to live and KDMC free of corruption.

Let's work smartly to create a smart city!! 

Development is not the responsibility only of KDMC Commissioner, Mayor or other authorities. They can only provide us the Infrastructure, but we should support them for our own betterment. It is not the issue of demolition but it is making the city clean and green. Presently, in most part of the twin city, construction of drainage line and foot path work is in progress. In the areas where it is already constructed we should start using the Footpath. It is observed as soon as footpath is constructed it is encroached by some hawkers but then it is our duty to complaint to the Authorities and they will take action. Lets pledge to use the footpath for walking, wherever it is already constructed!!

It is our moral obligation to improve the facilities in our city. We need good, honest and efficient chief to work for us. We have Ravindran sir to lead us in this regard but he needs our support to bring city a habitable one. It is difficult because we are used to all the inefficency and hazards and garbages!! Today we have some one to work with us to chane everything!!

Yes, Kalayan - Dombivli was in a mess and no one could change this city unless he gets the support of the concerned citizens. This is  E Ravindran needs to change this city into a world class one. The citizens has stood behind their commissioner until now and we need to for changing the life of the people of the city.

The story is not that easy. For the third time in a year, a new commissioner is appointed in the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in 2015 until E Ravindran, an IAS officer who earlier was the collector of the Sindhudurg district took charge . He has replaced, Madhukar Ardhad, who has been in the post since January.Jul 24, 2015.

Due to political pressure, none of the Commissioners have received an opportunity to become stable or understand the responsibilities and work accordingly. This has been a huge setback in the functioning of the KDMC. Not only has the commissioner been replaced thrice in one year, but also in the last five years, this is the fifth commissioner for KDMC. Residents as well as officials are upset over this frequent change that is being taken place. No wonder that Kalyan-Dombivli became the worst among the cities in India selected to make smart cities.

An official from the KDMC said, "This recurrent change will have a huge impact on the development work of the KDMC. The roads are in a bad state, the newly adopted 27 villages are not getting their proper services, dumping ground issue has not been resolved yet and there are various decisions to be taken regarding the BSUP. All this is possible only if a commissioner gets to settle down and undersatnd the functioning of the corporation."

Ravindran, assured the people on his assumption to the coveted position said , "I assure the residents that we will use the public money for the betterment of the public. Also, we shall focus on the development of the corporation and residents." He has remained true to his words till today and if he gets our support, he has proved that he can bring wonders into the city.

It is after a gap of 13 years that the KDMC is getting an IAS officer. Also, a resident, Rajan Mukkadam had appealed for this. He had been asking for an IAS officer to be posted as KDMC commissioner and had also conducted protests. So, when Ravindran took charge on Thursday, Mukkadam was seen running around the KDMC precincts, celebrating his joy by distributing sugar to everyone.
